The COVID-19 pandemic cornered people to their houses. This downtime allowed people to read, write and review many different aesthetic elements. Perhaps, among the transitions, the lifestyles of “eco-friendly consumers” and “sustainable products” stand out the most. The people who directly witnessed the repercussions of damaging the planet, tend to check a company’s environmental footprint when purchasing products.

The adverse climate changes in the world resulted from human negligence and irresponsibility. Similarly, a global-level corporation remains essential to avert an imminent environmental catastrophe. Furthermore, consumers around the globe claim that brands and companies share equal responsibility as governments in saving the planet. Hence many consumers want companies to be aware of their environmental footprint and produce sustainable products.

The Eco-Friendly Consumer and Sustainable Products

People became sensitive to the elements that harm the environment during the pandemic. Since the consumers changed their shopping ethics, companies also responded by marketing sustainable products.

According to PwC’s consumer insights pulse survey, half of the consumers surveyed on a global scale claimed to be more eco-friendly.  Consumers tend to purchase sustainable products to save the environment. In 2022, consumers bond with brands that minimize the environmental impact. However, with sustainability and environmental safety comes high prices and rarity of consumer goods.

Surveys regarding consumer behavior and trends state that 89% of consumers care about the qulaity of the product. 84% of the consumers consider price as the most important factor while 49% considered health factors and safety. Out of the surveyed consumers, 37% used environment-friendliness as a driving factor for their purchases. A further 72% stated that they were diligently buying eco-friendly products. 81% state their interest in buying even more sustainable products within the next five years.

Consumers adapted to this new lifestyle so well that they readily pay the extra cost to purchase eco-friendly products. More consumers demand sustainable products, irrespective of the price. Hence companies now reinforce the manufacture of products with a low environmental footprint. With the mass production of sustainable products, consumers gain access to affordable green products. This green-movement benefits companies to show their care for the remaining resources of the world. This allows businesses to form bonds with consumers.

Companies also focus on reducing the environmental footprint throughout the product lifecycle. This includes the lowering of the environmental footprint from production to storage through usage and disposal of the products.

The most eco-friendly countries are given below,

  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Norway
  • Japan
  • Finland
  • Denmark
  • New Zealand
  • Germany

Neither companies nor consumers show any interest in going back on their commitments to save the Earth. The worsening climatic conditions remain a daily reminder for consumers and companies to adopt sustainability. Hence companies will continue to produce sustainable and eco-friendly products to satisfy the consumers. This pathway benefits businesses while threatening the Earth as little as possible.
