The sizable nickel reserves of Indonesia will play a huge role in the uprising of electric vehicles. Despite the potential for development, locals show concern regarding the impact the change would cause on environmental regulations.

The operation to join the electric vehicle market imposes hindrances to the lives of certain locals. The locals of the Wawonii island  have been opposing the mining work for 5 years. The chopping down of trees and impact on environmental regulations paved the way for the riot. Land clearing occurs continuously and mining will soon start too.

Nickel, a key component in the manufacture of EV batteries, overflows in Indonesia. Hence, Indonesia intends to utilize the nickel resources and enter the EV market.
