China commanded on Saturday (May 7) to increase surveillance over the usage of internet platforms of underage users. The nation began imposing regulations regarding the online activity of youngsters a while back. Hence, the regulations act as a standoff against the risks accompanying online services and platforms for minors.

Curbs to the liberty available on online live streaming platforms for minors will be reduced according to the requirements of the government of China. Since live streaming services continue to rapidly increase in popularity, the threats to minors will also see a spike.

According to the National Radio and Television Administration, online live streaming platforms should exercise control over minors providing tips to live streamers. Since minors borrow a parent’s debit card for online activities, irresponsible use of assets is a major issue prevailing throughout the world. Also, live streaming platforms will prevent underage users from enrolling themselves as live streamers without the consent of a guardian. China attempts to cleanse the “chaos” in the business of live streaming and short video production. Notwithstanding the popularity of the platforms, the government focuses on a sanctioned plan to increase legal and age-appropriate content.

ByteDance’s Douyin, Kuaishou, Alibaba-baceked Bilibili and Huya and Douyo hold prominence among live streaming platforms available in China. All these platforms will soon step up governance over the usage of their services by minors.
