  • Singapore hosts the flight of Southeast Asia’s first sustainable aviation fuel helicopter.
  • The sustainable aviation fuel consists of a mix of cooking oil, animal fat, and jet fuel.
  • The project brings Southeast Asian countries a step closer to their net zero-emissions goal.

Most Southeast Asian countries aspire to reach net zero carbon emissions in the near future. Moreover, the governments of Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand hope to achieve net zero-emission while creating a sustainable economy. A helicopter that supplements the net zero-emission goal took flight on Monday (Sep 26) in Singapore.

The helicopter which ran on sustainable aviation fuel became the first chopper to run on sustainable fuel in Southeast Asia. The sustainable aviation fuel consists of a combination of cooking oil, animal fat, and jet fuel. The helicopter producer, Bell, marked eco-friendlier test flights for clients through this helicopter.

The helicopter manufacturer hoped to reach 20% less generation of greenhouse gases by the year 2025. The sustainable aviation fuel provided by the manufacturer of the renewable fuel, Neste, will cut off 30% of the emission from the helicopter.

“So far, the feedback has been really good. We’re seeing the same performance and I think customers are satisfied that we are taking steps right to reduce greenhouse emissions,” stated Jacinto Monge, Managing Director for Bell, Asia Pacific.
