Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Health Minister of Indonesia prompted to implement efficient plans to effectively eradicate Tuberculosis. The Minister suggests that the highly infectious tuberculosis can be completely removed from the surface of Earth. Also he hopes to eradicate Tb by 2030 by funding the development of a cure by 2025.
Most patients who end up getting infected with tuberculosis mistake its symptoms for a flu or common cold. Hence the lack of knowledge among the general public is a major factor for the widespread communication of the bacterium. Effective measures like development of a Tuberculosis awareness hotline can be developed. A collective network of professionals to provide guidance to the general public, can greatly educate people about the disease.
The Minister also implored the fellow leaders of the world to contribute to this goal. By collaborating and investing in a proper system of surveillance for tuberculosis, a great change can be made. Since the majority of the people possess smartphones and are equipped with the opportunity to use various platforms, services can easily spread knowledge and information. Accordingly, starting a global scale online platform to raise awareness about tuberculosis can be done. Educating the public about the acute symptoms of the disease is an investment that could bring about vast changes in the future.
According to the DM of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, this investment can prevent a future pandemic. A word to take note of is that, the healthier the citizens of a country are, the faster its economy will grow. Therefore, endeavors related to the tuberculosis eradication project is not just a service, it is an investment for a better tomorrow.
